If the breezy,romantic tone of vocalist and guitarist Jono Frola reminds you of the late Kenny Rankin, that may be no accident: the New York - based six - stringer includes a couple of Rankin staples on his recording Misty Roses (self - released), namely the Beatles' classic "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and the Randy Newman gem " Marie". Also like Rankin, Frola offers more than just a hint of gentle Brazilian sway in his emotive playing and singing. Penned by the late Tim Hardin, the title track to Frola's new recording, included here, displays his superpway with a dreamy ballad and features a lush, sigh- inducing arrangement that's full of wistful reverie.
